In the Garden

I've been busy!
Week before last I took the trailer to a nearby campground to finish the painting--DONE  HUZZAH!
Then I set it up with all the stuff I'd taken out and cleaned it really well,
including Mop and Glo on the floor.
Then I left that campground and when to Smithville Lake to camp with Beth's Crew!
So glad I had Lucas there to back into the spot, I never would have made it.
Also glad I had Tim to pull Me (and the camper) out of said spot.
It rained,
It was windy,
It was cold.
So cold I was glad I had brought along my winter coat!
It was fun if sloshy.
On Wednesday,
Ceili went back into storage and I came home.

Then the yard work began.
Mowing and raking first.

I made a list of the things I hoped to accomplish!
Then I had a laughing fit!
I'm such an optimist!

So, I decided that I had to do three things this week.
I had to move the Hostas.
Really clean the Garage.
And Clean my studio.

I began the chore of moving Hostas.
There are plants in here that you cannot even see!
So that involved removing sod.
Anyone who has ever had to move sod knows what an awful job it is,
plus something must be done with that sod.
Some of it was used to fill in some low and muddy places in the back yard
some went into the empty veggie beds.
Then I had to haul in some dirt (from that empty veggie bed) and till it.
Then and only then could I move hostas!
Eleven of them.
Plus some perennials that needed more space to the sunny end.

Now it looks like this.
In  a few days it will look different.
Hostas are amazing plants.
The first of my three is DONE!
The garage is begun,
the studio is in a sad way.

The cacti are at it again!
Six of the eight are blooming or in bud.
This has never happened before..
They must be happy.

My teacup with Mexican heather.

And in the tomato patch.
the first baby tomatoes!

In the front garden,
the yarrow is blooming.
I love that pop of yellow!

Lastly,
the petunias in the rounded bed are looking very nice!
It took a lot of those to get this look.
Like 36 plants.
The lilies have overgrown their spot so I'll be moving them as soon as they bloom.
I have just to spot!
And it doesn't involve sod!

I've been hot and sweaty.
Also SORE!

  1. Wow--you put me to shame in the yardwork department. I am trying to think of ways to get out of the work this year (it is way too hot way too early), not ways to do it. Kudos to you!

    1. Thanks for stopping in at Gail's Place! This should have been done last month but it was just too wet! Now it's really hot, but it's done!

  2. I am assuming that sod translates as turf! Such a lot of work. I have one Hosta in a pot and it is a magnet for snails - we remove the snails, put down pellets but it does no good, lots of holey leaves. Still the flowers do seem to vome each year. Good to have all that painting done and thank goodness for youngsters! xx

    1. Thanks for stopping by again! Yes sod could be called Turf-lots of shovel work and moving of chunks of grass and dirt! I am really happy to have some major projects completed, now on to the next. Try putting hair clippings around your hosta-They told up to do that in California and it did work, something about snails not wanting to crawl across it.

    1. Thank you! I've worked for several years trying to get something showy in that front garden-turns out I just needed to put in a bunch of plants! I don't understand my cacti! For years they have bloomed once, in the winter. Now it seems that they are blooming multiple times a year and in the hot summer. All I can think is that whatever I'm doing must be making them happy, I think I'm treating them the way I always do-with benevolent neglect!

  5. Thanks, The gardening is finished except for watering. First there was too much rain now there is none! Gotta love Missouri weather, not. Thank goodness the studio is in the basement where it is several degrees cooler than upstairs even without the Air conditioning! You stay warm!
